NATIONAL FEDERATION OF REPUBLICAN ASSEMBLY
SEMI-ANNUAL BOARD MEETING
April 26, 2014
On Saturday, April 26, TXRA National Committeewoman Melba McDow and TXRA President Steve Hollern attended a semiannual Board meeting of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies at The Pyramids in north Indianapolis. The meeting was held in conjunction with the annual convention of the National Rifle Association. Although the NFRA Board meeting ran simultaneously with the NRA Convention, many NFRA members were able to attend the NRA Stand and Fight rally that included presentations by Sarah Palin, Oliver North, and Wayne LaPierre. Entertainment was by Sara Evans and by the group Alabama.
The highlight of the NFRA meeting was when Alaska was chartered as the newest state Assembly. States in attendance included Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida, California, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Kansas, Nevada, Indiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, and others.
Among other business matters, the Board tentatively authorized holding the 2016 Presidential Preference Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, in the Fall of 2015. Specific dates and pricing will be set during the NFRA Board meeting in the Fall of this year.
Resolutions were debated and several were adopted, including ones dealing with ballot security, Benghazi, and transcripts from the Holy Land Foundation/CAIR trial. A resolution pertaining to an Article V, Convention of the States, was discussed at length and then tabled until the Fall Board meeting. The intention was to give Board members time to study the issue and read both Mark Levin’s book The Liberty Amendments and Phyllis Schlafly’s various writings on the subject. At this time there are fairly strong opinions both for and against but many Board members thought they were not sufficiently informed on the issue to cast an informed and intelligent vote.
